Wildern Leisure Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and this is a shared responsibility between us, our hirers and our customers.
Safeguarding is:
(Children includes everyone under the age of 18)
Safeguarding arrangements need to include:
Where a child is suffering significant harm, or is likely to do so, action should be taken to protect that child. Action should also be taken to promote the welfare of a child in need of additional support, even if they are not suffering harm or are at immediate risk.
The role of The Leisure Centre
Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. Community and School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. We form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021. Schools should work with social care, the police, health services and other services to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.
Safeguarding Guidance
The statutory guidance from the Department for Education issued under Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 states that all schools must have clear and transparent safeguarding processes.
There are 10 Designated Safeguarding Leads within Wildern School. The Designated Safeguarding Lead with regards to the Community aspect of the school is Miss Harriet Jones - Assistant Headeacher. All Community Staff receive regular safeguarding training.
Our Safeguarding Policy is reviewed on an annual basis.
